i’m using the magura electric throttle. as far as i know the best and best looking electric throttle around. + some domino brake levers. long enough to reach around the throttle. + one trail tech on / off switch.. also mounted there will be the cycle analyst digital display.

the motor and variator and clutch are all mounted up. with this set up the belt is not completely straight like it should be. it will be fine for testing. but later i will cut the ciao frame in half and weld in a proper motor mounting box type thing. so the motor goes exactly where it should be + it will reinforce the frame.

i mounted a puch front spoke wheel in the bravo forks. just because i had a black puch spoke wheel that matched the back ciao wheel. but i had to get a longer axle. this is the same challenge you face when you want a puch spoke wheel or 5 star on ebr hydraulic forks or any other wider forks. so ya gotta get one of the 11mm long axles with lots of thread. i used the olympia 11mm x 180mm axle. it has enough thread to work. the 200mm one does not. or at least the one i tried didn’t. then i dremeled the brake plate a little to get it to fit on the bravo forks, this worked but the wheel sits over to the side too much. it will work fine for now. i might be able to modify the brake plate more to get the wheel centered. i’ll try that or maybe get different forks later.

putting together another the vespa variated gearbox.  no malossi gears. just stock. i have acquired some of the parts from three different variated gearboxes. some of the gears are chipped and broken. one of the gearbox cases is destroyed and missing a bearing. but with all these parts, i was able to put together one working gearbox.

and ya know when you put these things back together. for me at least. it’s soooo hard to turn the thing. it’s so tight. then i put it in the wheel and with the leverage of the wheel i turn it. . .and clank! something falls into place. i don’t know what exactly. then it all spins freely.!? the gearbox is working. gaskets, washers? leave them in or out? try what works, make it the way it’s supposed to work first with all the washers and gasket. then put it in the wheel to see if you can make it spin. then maybe take some stuff out if you have to later. seems logical to me?

holes were drilled, and the flange bearing is mounted. i figure i can just get a belt that’s the right size and not worry about the exact placement of the motor. so there it is. that’s where it’s gonna be. i have to cut down those long bolts. + they’re standard, not metric. too bad. but that’s the kind of bolt the flange bearing likes. i’m gonna have to figure out how to get those mounting nuts n bolts very thin and out of the way, so they won’t be in the way of the variator. hummmmm, i’ll figure that out later

here’s the mounting brackets. as always made from rusted cast out scraps of metal, un rusted, and formed to my desires.

now some more holes are drilled

and the brackets get bolted to the frame. hopefully helping to strengthen the frame, that’s starting to look more and more like swiss cheeses, and of course, hold the electric motor securely in place. if all goes as planned this motor will create quite a bit of  torque. so it’s gotta be in there securely and be quickly removable, if i need to take it out.

cut openings on both sides of the frame to fit the motor. then position motor and flange bearing sort of where i want it

next, i’ll make a rear motor mounting and frame strengthening bracket thing and weld it on. bolt the flange bearing in place. and modify the motor shaft to fit the vespa variator

what a wonderful gift. a ciao. the most elegant moped. and with some 2.25 gazelles on this rusted frame with the bravo hydraulic forks. it’s a work of art.

and what is this? the electric motor. sitting on top of the frame. ready to be assembled. it will take some cutting and welding. this motor is the equivalent of about a 60cc gas engine i think, maybe more with the right touch. the batteries and controller are coming next. those are the secrets, well it’s all obvious, yet in this configuration, it becomes somewhat of a secret.

the right brake plate for ebr hydraulics. not so easy to make work and have your wheel in the middle.

wrong brake plate for the bravo forks. this plate works with the EBR hydraulics. gotta find that other one i had, where did i put it?
